Yesterday an iconic director and writer passed away: John Hughes.
John Hughes directed and wrote movies that introduced the Brat Pack (Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, & Ally sheedy). Hughes directed movies like The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science and Pretty in Pink. Movies in the 80's that
cultivated the term "teen movies." For Taking it Back Friday we're picking a few songs to honor John Hughes and his movies:
- Simple Minds - "Don't You Forget About Me" You can't forget the scene where Judd Nelson jumps up in the air at the end as the song plays.
- OMD - "If You Leave" Andrew McCarthy and Molly Ringwald kissing in the parking lot at Prom.
- Oing Boingo - "Weird Science" Who can forget when Gary (Anthony Michael Hall) and Wyatt (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) meet Lisa (Kelly LeBrock) for the first time.
- Spandau Ballet - "True" Before the Wedding Singer soundtrack existed. "True" was on the Sixteen Candles soundtrack
- The Beatles - "Twist and Shout" The boy who we all admired that could play hookie from school with style and ease. Ferris Bueller was the ultimate mastermind at ditching school.
Thank you John Hughes for bringing us teen movies and music inspired by your movies.
